Privacy
Short version: no accounts, no cookies, no ads, no tracking across sites. Problem reports are the only thing you can send us.
What stays on your device
The staircases you mark as climbed, your route and your settings are saved in your own browser. They are never sent to us. Clearing your browser’s site data removes them. GPX files you import are read on your device and not uploaded.
Problem reports
If you report a problem with a staircase, we store the staircase, the problem type, whether it’s passable, your description and, only if you give it, your email address. We use your email only to reply about that report and delete it when the report is closed. To limit spam we keep a scrambled code derived from your IP address that changes every day and can’t be turned back into your address. Reports are stored with Cloudflare.
What we measure
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views, countries and device types without cookies and without building a profile of you. We don’t see who you are.
Other services your browser talks to
- Map tiles come from OpenFreeMap. Like any map, your browser requests tiles from their servers, which see your IP address.
- Staircase photos load from the City of Pittsburgh / WPRDC image server.
- Fonts are served from this site. We don’t use Google Fonts.
- Your location is used only if you tap “Use my location” in the route builder, stays in your browser, and is never sent to us.
Links to Google Maps, the City’s 311 form and other sites follow those sites’ own privacy policies.
